The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) announced on Monday, June 20, 2005 that Johnston McLamb had been selected by the Great Places to Work® Institute (GPTWI) as one of the top 25 small companies to work for in America for the second straight year. Johnston McLamb, which also received this honor in 2004, the inaugural year of the small business awards, was the only company in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Maryland or the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to make this year’s list of top 25 small companies.
SHRM is the world's largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 185,000 individual members and with more than 500 affiliated chapters in the United States as well as members in more than 100 countries, their mission is to serve the needs of HR professionals by providing the most essential and comprehensive resources available.
GPTWI is a research and management consultancy based in San Francisco with affiliates in more than 24 countries outside the United States. GPTWI produces other "Best Companies to Work for" lists, including Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work for"© and uses a variety of employee assessment tools and educational methods to further the goal of "Building a better society by helping companies transform their workplaces."
In announcing the companies selected by GPTWI, the President and CEO of SHRM, Susan R. Meisinger, SPHR said, "Too often, we hear that large companies have the advantage in the war for talent because they have more resources. But these companies understand that employees are their competitive edge. The way these companies invest in their employees should inspire every organization" Added GPTWI cofounder Robert Levering, "The most successful companies in today’s increasingly competitive business climate will be those that create environments with the most highly motivated and innovative employees who cooperate well with each other. This only happens in companies where there is a high level of trust, which is what distinguishes these winning companies."
