Johnston McLamb to Help Government Agencies Comply with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

Leverages business intelligence expertise to create customized ARRA compliance solutions for federal and state agencies

Chantilly, VA—May 4, 2009 — Johnston McLamb announced today a new offering to satisfy government agencies' mandatory reporting requirements and meet the deadlines of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The management and technology consulting firm is applying their geospatial business intelligence (BI) expertise to help both federal and state agencies meet the still-evolving requirements of the ARRA and the February 18 Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memo.

The ARRA is the federal government's investment to help create jobs and stimulate the economy. The Act promotes a high level of transparency and accountability, so citizens will know how tax dollars are being spent. The OMB memo provides initial guidance for mandatory reporting on obligations and expenditures for each agency. All recipients of the investment are required to provide details on their progress in eight different levels, upload details to the Recovery.org web site, and dedicate a page of the primary agency web site to Recovery Act activities. Find the OMB memo here.

Because Johnston McLamb's core offerings include business intelligence and data mining, they are poised to help agencies comply quickly with deadlines and satisfy these requirements under GSA Schedule 70, contract number GS-35F-5814H. To help agencies understand the benefits to them, a free demo is available here.

In addition to detailed reporting, Johnston McLamb's ARRA solutions will bring data visualization tools to agency web sites. Charts, graphs and interactive features will empower citizens to visualize and understand data in powerful ways. Users will be able to focus on issues of greatest interest to them. For example, a graph could display the total appropriations, obligations and expenditures for an agency's Recovery Act funding by program source on a weekly basis. This gives users the ability to view spending over time. These solutions can empower citizens to sort data by amount appropriated, obligated and expended and focus on a specific area of interest. Data can also be displayed by Treasury Account Symbol (TAS) Code, vendor, congressional district, and other factors.

Interactive visual business intelligence features include maps where drill down, zoom in and out, and selected data can be displayed. Johnston McLamb's data visualization experts can work with agencies to quickly implement a customized solution. If needed, this can even include reporting across agencies and programs. These visualization services can also be used by advocacy organizations to look at a specific program or cause.

"While the requirements of the Act are still evolving, federal agencies must comply immediately," said Wendy Henry, vice president and chief operating officer of Johnston McLamb. "We have moved quickly and soundly to help them meet the transparency and reporting requirements. Our approach and expertise in helping the government achieve other compliance mandates positions us to respond rapidly to build interactive and visual solutions that facilitate transparency and understanding by citizens," said Henry.

Johnston McLamb has a solid track record in helping agencies meet mandates, including 508 compliance and performance management on eGov Initiatives. They have made significant investments in learning about the Act and dedicated a team to moving quickly to satisfy this demand.
