Johnston McLamb Teams With the U.S. Postal Service to Present a Webinar on Achieving Maximum ROI for Facility Management
Case study on how Johnston McLamb is helping USPS meet a goal of adding $150 million to their bottom line by facilities optimization
Chantilly, VA—June 11, 2009 — Johnston McLamb and the U.S. Postal Service presented a one-hour webinar that demonstrated a methodology that is enabling the U.S. Postal Service to:
- Minimize surplus space and maximize cost savings.
- Minimize lease and ownership expense by optimizing facilities.
- Effectively manage facility optimization by reducing analysis and decision time.
- Optimize their inventory of facilities through best practices implemented by Johnston McLamb.
This same methodology can also be used for facilities optimization in retailing, distribution, and real estate.
Any organization that occupies space in a large number of buildings probably has surplus space. Eliminating this surplus space can often result in significant cost savings. For example, the United States Postal Service has a goal to generate additional revenue and reduce costs by an estimated $150 million or more per year by optimizing operations and disposing of surplus buildings from their inventory of approximately 34,000 properties nationwide. The webinar demonstrated what they are doing to achieve this goal.
Steven Pierce, Geospatial Business Manager, Johnston McLamb, discussed the methodology and framework that Johnston McLamb developed to implement a location-based intelligence system for USPS, and related geospatial solutions that are helping USPS effectively manage and optimize its large inventory of facilities. Then Tim Perez, Manager of Facilities Program Support for the U.S. Postal Service, talked about the significant property management challenges he faces and the innovative solutions he is implementing to help meet those challenges.
Directions Media hosted the webinar. Joe Francica, Vice Publisher and Editor in Chief, Directions Media, said: "The type of location-based intelligence system that Johnston McLamb developed for the U.S. Postal Service can benefit both government and commercial users alike. More than ever, we need to take advantage of decision support tools that integrate into existing business processes and help accelerate more informed decision making, resulting in greater cost savings and a high ROI than would be possible without these tools."
