Business Intelligence Solutions
Johnston McLamb is an expert consulting firm implementing Business Intelligence (BI) solutions through all stages of the development life cycle. Our track record includes a number of highly successful BI projects for one of the largest employers in the country with some of the biggest databases in the world. We're technology agnostic. This is an advantage to our customers because we work with a wide variety of technologies and tools.
| What Is It |
Common functionality of business intelligence applications includes reporting, online analytical processing (OLAP), analytics, dashboards, scorecards, data mining, corporate performance management, and predictive analysis. |
| Our Approach |
Developing a successful BI solution requires a thorough understanding of the customer's business and intended benefits. We work closely with your stakeholders to gather requirements, information about pain points, and priorities for improvement. The value of BI is only as good as the data available. So early on, we determine the data required for the BI solution, and then assess the data that is actually available. |
| Data Warehouses |
Usually a data warehouse or data marts provide the source of data for a BI solution. Some enterprises will already have these and some will not. If they already exist, we assess their data to determine if it's sufficient to support the desired BI solution. If it isn't, we document the issues, make recommendations for correction, and present a plan for moving forward. With customer approval, we implement the plan. If the enterprise doesn't have a data warehouse, we can design and develop one, including data marts if necessary. We work with the customer to determine the best database platform to use. Our business intelligence experts then design the database to perform well under the expected user load and to be scalable as usage grows. This also includes developing the necessary extract, transform, and load (ETL) interfaces. |
| BI Tools and Reports |
When there is a solid foundation of data, the next step is to choose a BI tool. If the enterprise doesn't already have a preferred tool, we conduct an evaluation and recommend an optimum solution. Our experience with many of the leading BI tools enables us to make a well-informed recommendation. We integrate the BI tool with the data warehouse or other data source. If necessary, we then develop views for the various types of BI reports. Our business intelligence consultants work closely with stakeholders and users to develop reports and train your end users. We also work with the customer to define and document the security rules and implement the authorization levels. |
