Geospatial Solutions

Chief Information Officers rank business intelligence as a top priority. But organizations often lack the necessary tools to transform their data into intelligent business information. Our geospatial solutions empower key decision makers to ask the right questions. And they enable them to see relationships and draw conclusions that otherwise may not have been reached. Our maps and visual applications are easy to read and understand. They enable any user to quickly focus on and analyze information requiring the most immediate attention.

What We Do

We develop custom web-based applications that enable users to display and analyze business intelligence data on maps, with these highly valuable features:

  • The applications link directly to the data source. This means information displayed on the maps is always immediately up-to-date as the source data changes. Data can be from any source, not just databases.
  • Our interactive filters and controls enable users to change the display in real time, select the data they want to see on the map, and perform "what if" analysis.
    Geospatial Applications
  • We specialize in using Oracle's built-in spatial tools, including MapViewer and Oracle Locator. These products are already available at nearly all federal agencies, plus thousands of other enterprises. This makes application development faster and cheaper, since the customer usually doesn't have to purchase any additional licenses.
  • For customers who have Oracle, our VBIMaps product enables us to implement a basic mapping application within just 10 weeks.

We're a reseller of NAVTEQ data. We integrate this with our customers' own location-based data, putting their information into context. NAVTEQ data includes zip codeGeospatial Solutions boundaries, census tract boundaries, roads, highways, waterways, and dozens of different types of points of interest, including schools, hospitals, banks, retail outlets and more. We also use NAVTEQ data to develop applications that show routing and enable route optimization.

Geocoding

We provide geocoding services. Geocoding is the process of finding associated geographic coordinates (usually expressed as latitude and longitude) from other geographic data. This includes street addresses and zip codes. To display data on a map, latitude and longitude coordinates are needed, but often a customer's location-based data isn't in this format. Johnston McLamb can geocode data to prepare it for use in geospatial applications.

Architectural Drawings Geospatial Applications

Our geospatial solutions are not just restricted to maps. We can format customers' architectural drawings for storage in spatial format in an Oracle database. Then the drawings can be displayed in a geospatial application built with Oracle tools. The drawings can be integrated with maps, showing users locations of their buildings and enabling them to drill down and see the architectural diagram of any building.
